ERA Calligraphy and Stationery Studio specialises in luxury bespoke wedding stationery,
as well as calligraphy for special events, unique commissions and brands and organisations.
My style takes inspiration from art and design, and the results are contemporary, pared back and sophisticated.
All of my services start with a conversation about your unique vision for your stationery, following which I will work with you to bring your vision to life. Some of the items of wedding stationery that I can provide are listed below, but to start a conversation get in touch here.
BEFORE YOUR DAY
ON YOUR DAY
SAVE THE DATES
This piece of stationery can be particularly useful if you are getting married overseas, if a lot of your guests will be travelling a long distance, or if your wedding date is in high season. If you plan to create a wedding website, a save the date is be a good way to introduce your guests to your site.
If you opt for save the dates, a good time to send them is eight to twelve months before your wedding.
Your invitation card will hold the most important information for the day of your marriage; your names, the wedding venue and the date and time of your ceremony.
This return post will confirm your guests' attendance at your wedding as well as any additional information that you require from your guests, such as menu choices. Adding the names of your guests and return addressing the RSVP envelopes is a luxurious addition that you may opt for.
Alternatively you may decide to use a wedding website which allows your guests to respond to your invitation digitally.
This is the place to divulge the ins and outs of your big day to your guests. Include information such as accommodation, travel to and from the venue, your preferred dress code and any associated events that you may be planning.
Adding your guests names and addresses to your envelopes is a beautiful and memorable way to finish your invitation suite. Addresses can be applied in hand lettering, or for a contemporary finish, the address can be printed digitally to the face of the envelope in a font to co-ordinate with your invitation suite.
ORDER OF SERVICE
Your order of service is designed to ensure that your guests are in the right place at the right time throughout your day. While it can be used purely to list the details of your wedding ceremony, including readings and hymns, you may also decide to use your order of service to outline the timings for your drinks reception and wedding breakfast as well as your cake cutting and first dance.
ESCORT CARDS / TABLE PLAN
Both a table plan and escort cards will direct your guests to their designated table, but you may prefer to use escort cards which your guests can keep following your wedding.
While escort cards or a table plan will direct your guests to their table, place cards will indicate a specific seat for each guest.
Beautifully printed menu cards included at each place setting outline the delicious details of your wedding breakfast that your guests can look forward to.
Whether welcoming your guests to your wedding, in the place of an order of service, or listing drinks options at your bar, the possibilities are endless when it comes to the information and style of your wedding signage.
THANK YOU NOTES
(This one really falls after your day)
A thank you letter is always a pleasure to receive, so why not treat your guests to a note after your big day? Designed to co-ordinate with the rest of your wedding stationery for the final hurrah, a thank you note is the sweetest reminder of your day.
PROCESSES and FINISHING TOUCHES
Calligraphy, or hand lettering, can be used in many ways to finish and to personalise your wedding stationery. From envelope addressing and adding your guests' names to your invitation suites, to creating the place names or personalising the menus for your wedding breakfast, hand lettering will bring a unique contemporary quality to your wedding details.
Hand lettering can also be digitalised to be used in print across the many aspects of your wedding stationery.
WAX SEALS and BESPOKE MONOGRAMS
A truly luxurious finishing touch to any bundle of stationery. You may decide to wrap your invitation suite in a bundle sealed with wax, or you might opt to stamp your preferred motif on the envelope itself. Either way, this age-old tradition is a firm favourite. Another way to really stamp your identity on your wedding stationery is to include a bespoke monogram which can not only be used in print, but can also be produced as a wax seal.
HAND MADE SILK RIBBONS
To finish your invitation suite with a delicate, romantic touch, why not tie the bundle of stationery with a hand dyed silk ribbon? Available in a rainbow of colours to complement or co-ordinate with your stationery, this pretty, feminine touch makes for a great juxtaposition with a suite of minimalist, contemporary stationery.
GILT / COLOURED EDGES
These are as fabulous as they sound! Choose an accent colour or metallic shade from your suite of stationery to coat the edges of your thick invitation card.
Letterpress is a traditional printing method using relief printing from a printing plate, which when applied with ink and pressure to your chosen card stock creates a gorgeous textured print.
HOT FOIL PRINTING
A similar process to letterpress printing, but in the place of the ink, a heated printing plate transfers a metallic or coloured foil into the surface of the card stock.
BLIND EMBOSSING / DEBOSSING
Similar again to letterpress and hot foil printing, blind embossing / debossing is a form of relief printing, however the resulting print is formed purely from the detail pushed into the paper as no ink or foil is used.
The difference between these two processes is that an embossed design is raised from the surface of the paper whereas a debossed design will be sunken into the paper's surface.
Paired with minimalist, contemporary designs, digital printing can create beautiful pared back stationery. It can also be used hand in hand with the printing methods listed above. These traditional printing methods can be used to pick out and highlight details within the design, contrasting with the digitally printed information on the same card creating luxurious modern stationery.
